Seven to Fourteen Day DUI/DWI ProgramDUI/DWI ProgramThe Life Center of Galax has developed a seven to fourteen day inpatient treatment program geared to individuals referred through court services for DUI/DWI offenses. This program was designed as an effective deterrent to incarceration. The goal of this program are two-fold. First, the patient will receive a complete physical examination by a licensed physician, be exposed to basic information on the disease concept of addiction, learn personality traits and addictive behaviors, be oriented to the twelve-step recovery programs of AA and NA, attend nightly meetings while in treatment and attend group and individual counseling sessions. Secondly, after the multidisciplinary team compiles their assessments at the end of the treatment period, the primary counselor will prepare a discharge summary based on their findings as well as establish appropriate aftercare/continuing care arrangements with outpatient DUI/DWI counselors. Recommendations for further treatment and/or activities will be included. Contact The Life Center at (toll free) for more information Our BeliefDriving Under the Influence and Driving While Intoxicated charges are playing an ever increasing role in the identification of persons with alcohol and drug problems.Public outcries have resulted in stricter requirements for drivers charged with DUI/DWI and strong actions against those convicted of these charges. Penalties now range from surrendering your driver's license at the time of arrest to active jail time upon conviction. However, the greatest judicial achievement to date has been the implementation in some states of a court-ordered assessment for alcohol and/or drug abuse upon arrest, and use of this information during the trial and sentencing. The use of assessment and court-ordered treatment does not guarantee the offender will not drink and drive again, however, it does insure the individual will never drink and drive without knowledge and understanding of the risk involved. This program of assessment and treatment, as well as related costs and penalties, has been especially helpful in identifying both alcohol and/or drug abusers and those in the early to mid-stages of the progression of alcoholism and addiction. Through education, self-evaluation, and professional therapy, abusers have learned a strategy for moderation of use or planning around alcohol related events. Those identified as addicted have been able to utilize this legal intervention as a "bottom," and from this point begin a personal recovery program. Courts have also used previous assessments and treatment histories as grounds for more stringent sentences in the event of a repeat or habitual offender. We at The Life Center recognize the need for, and value of, assessing and treating problem drinkers or users who drive. We have offered DUI/DWI treatment programs since 1989. |
