Family Therapy

We believe chemical dependency is a family illness. As the disease progresses, family members learn to repress feelings and to react with compulsive survival behaviors which reduce personal stress.

Each individual within the family system develops their own compulsive survival role and becomes increasingly out-of, touch with reality.

Family members and significant others are encouraged to attend the family program each Saturday and Sunday while their loved one is in treatment.

Treatment consists of six hour workshops each day, and offers a combination of educational lectures, group therapy, and individual counseling sessions.

Our goal is to assist participants in discovering their individual defense systems and to break through their denial and delusional systems. Group members are also introduced to Al-Anon, Ala-Teen and other self, help groups and encouraged to attend.

The initial family interview is completed during the patient's admission process whenever possible. For members who aren't present upon admission, clinical staff will attempt to contact them within 24 hours and offer program orientation and complete a co-lateral assessment for use in the development of the client's Master Treatment Plan.

Our goal is to empower family and significant others to act in their own behalf in a positive manner, rather than react to the disease of addiction.

Creating a healthier, recovering family atmosphere enhances the support systems available to the patient upon discharge. This, in turn, helps build a healthier, more stable environment where individual and family recovery can occur.

Group topics include: Family systems; educational lecture and group exercise; Disease Concept of Addiction lecture; codependency education and group exercise; Family in Recovery lecture and communication group exercise; Expectations of Return; Change in Irrational Thinking; films specializing in family dynamics; and group therapy each afternoon of the program.

Those identified in need of more specialized or intensive therapy are referred to outpatient services in their area.
