Life Center of Galax in Virginia offers a less intense, more flexible approach to chemical dependency and dual diagnosis treatment through our day support/partial services.
Admission to this level of care follows assessment and evaluation which illustrates the presence of one of the following:
- Transition down from inpatient residential treatment to day treatment.
- Failure of a lesser level of care, such as outpatient etc.
- First time admission based on assessed need for structure and consistency not available through routine or intensive
Clients in this program are admitted to our addiction rehab center, assigned a case manager, and assessed through routine protocol used with inpatient treatment.
Patients recommended for admission must demonstrate escalating responsibility for themselves and others, positive engagement in the treatment process, and the potential to develop and/or maintain sober support through family, self-help groups, etc.
Day support does provide for patients to leave our rehab center at the end of the treatment day and return the following morning. All day support clients are asked to sign a sobriety contract, guaranteeing to maintain abstinence, punctuality, and similar responsibilities.
Violation of the contract will prompt a re-evaluation of the patient’s progress and recommendations for the most appropriate level of care.
Therapy includes the following activities each day; community group, didactic lecture and lecture process group, group therapy, leisure activities, step study, AA or NA meetings, and significant event group. Families are included in this rehab process with attendance to the Saturday and Sunday workshops encouraged as well. (Click here for more about family therapy.)
Discharge is determined by patient progress in meeting treatment goals, and confirmed by the treatment team. All patients participate in aftercare planning, which may include any or all of the following: outpatient counseling, attendance to self-help groups, entrance to halfway house, family counseling, EAP counseling and aftercare group placement.
We believe chemical dependency is a family illness. As the disease progresses, family members learn to repress feelings and to react with compulsive survival behaviors which reduce personal stress. Each individual within the family system develops their own compulsive survival role and becomes increasingly out-of, touch with reality. Family members and significant others are encouraged to attend the family program each Saturday and Sunday while their loved one is in rehab. Treatment consists of six hour workshops each day, and offers a combination of educational lectures, group therapy, and individual counseling sessions.
The goal at our addiction rehab center is to assist the men and women of Virginia in discovering their individual defense systems and to break through their denial and delusional systems. Group members are also introduced to Al-Anon, Ala-Teen and other self, help groups and encouraged to attend. Clinical staff will attempt to contact patient’s family during first five days of treatment to offer program orientation and gather information for use in the development of the patients’ Master Treatment Plan. Our goal is to empower family and significant others to act in their own behalf in a positive manner, rather than react to the disease of addiction. Creating a healthier, recovering family atmosphere enhances the support systems available to the patient upon discharge. This, in turn, helps build a healthier, more stable environment where individual and family recovery can occur.
Group topics include: Family systems; educational lecture and group exercise; Disease Concept of Addiction lecture; codependency education and group exercise; Family in Recovery lecture and communication group exercise; Expectations of Return; Change in Irrational Thinking; films specializing in family dynamics; and group therapy each afternoon of the rehab program. Those identified in need of more specialized or intensive therapy are referred to outpatient services in their area.
Life Center of Galax provides aftercare options to help the transition after rehab.
We believe aftercare and continuing care arrangements are critical to a patient’s ongoing personal recovery.
Every patient who participates in chemical dependency and dual diagnosis rehab at the Life Center is required to complete a personal recovery plan with their case manager.
Plans are individualized, and based on the patient’s progress towards meeting the goals and objectives identified on the Master Treatment Plan.
Ongoing involvement in a self-help program is considered essential to continuing recovery. Involvement in a professionally facilitated aftercare group either at Life Center of Galax in Virginia, or through the individual’s community resources is also emphasized. Individual and family therapy on an outpatient basis is recommended as appropriate. Recommendations are also made for halfway house or supportive living environment when deemed necessary.
When halfway houses are recommended and the patient is agreeable, placement is secured prior to discharge from Life Center.
