I have worked with DV and sexual assault for years, and then worked with families on child abuse prevention programs and services. Substance use was at the core of most of the families I worked with, and I myself have experienced many family members who have struggled with substances, including my youngest sister, who died from her addiction at the age of 42. When you are unable to help your own family, there is a sense of hope that gets restored when you are able to help someone else. Every day here is a new adventure, and seeing people grow emotionally and spiritually is very rewarding.
