Treatment at the Life Center is based on the premise that chemical dependency - alcoholism and drug addiction - are treatable diseases with complex physical, behavioral, psychological, social and spiritual components which impair normal functioning.

For individuals, whose recovery from substance is complicated by a co-existing psychiatric problem, the Life Center offers Dual Diagnosis treatment. People with multiple problems can and do recover. Our program is designed to treat the individual holistically, addressing all issues as they relate to stabilization and recovery.

To begin building the foundation for a better life, the Life Center's treatment program focuses on the whole person to promote personal growth in recovery. Because recovery is a lifelong process, familiarization with Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) are key elements of the program and are stressed as primary in long-term recovery.

The Life Center of Galax is a private, freestanding center for the treatment of alcohol, drug abuse and dual diagnosis problems. The Life Center, which opened in 1973 , was the first facility in Virginia specifically licensed and accredited to exclusively treat chemical dependency.
