Frequently Asked Questions
Where is your program located?
We are located in Galax, Virginia — a small secluded town amid the state’s lush rolling hills.
What types of problems/disorders do you treat?
The Life Center of Galax is a private, freestanding treatment center for adults who are struggling with alcoholism, drug abuse and dual diagnoses.
How much will treatment cost?
Addiction rehabilitation is a highly personal experience, and the costs associated with treatment depend upon a number of issues, including (but not necessarily limited to) the specific nature of your problem being treated, the amount of time you will need to remain in treatment, and the presence of any co-occurring disorders.
Our intake advisors will be happy to work with you to develop an accurate picture of what your treatment will cost.
Does your program accept insurance or provide financing options?
We believe healthcare cost containment is everyone’s responsibility, and we’re ready to do our share. When you contact us (either by completing our online contact form or by calling ), one of our intake advisors will be able to discuss the range of financing options that are available to you.
Are your staff members licensed?
Yes. Our professional staff is composed of master’s level therapists, certified addiction counselors, a psychiatrist, a medical director certified in addiction medicine, 24-hour nursing staff and other specialists – all of whom have extensive personal and professional experience with recovery.
Is your program accredited?
Yes. In 1973, The Life Center became Virginia’s first facility to be specifically licensed and accredited to exclusively treat chemical dependency. Today, The Life Center is fully licensed by the state of Virginia and is nationally accredited by the Joint Commission.
Does your program treat dual diagnosis patients?
Yes. Our program is designed to treat clients holistically, addressing all issues as they relate to stabilization and recovery. For more information about our dual diagnosis program visit our dual diagnosis page.
Do you provide detox services?
Yes, we do. A medical director who is certified in addiction performs physical exams and thorough evaluations of our clients’ medical histories. Individuals who require detoxification will be treated with medications to ensure a safe, comfortable and effective detox experience.
Does The Life Center of Galax support AA/NA and similar 12-Step programs?
Yes, we do. All Life Center clients are introduced to the 12-Step recovery process through individual sessions and recovery-focused process groups.
How long will I need to be in treatment?
Drug rehab treatment can vary from a few days to many months. Research shows that the longer a person remains in treatment, the greater the likelihood that long-term sobriety will result. As with most aspects of treatment, determining ideal length of stay involves an analysis of a number of personal factors.
Our professionals will take all of these issues into consideration as we work with you to create the personalized program that will put you in the best position to pursue long-term recovery.
Will I be required (or permitted) to take medication during treatment?
As indicated above, we are prepared to use medications during detox to ensure as safe and painless an experience as possible.
Of course, all medication determinations are made on an individual basis, and always involve the informed consent of the client. While you are in residence at The Life Center of Galax, no decision regarding medication will be made without your input and consent.
What types of therapies and programs does Life Center of Galax use?
During residential treatment at The Life Center of Galax, clients participate in a combination of group therapy, individual counseling and education on addiction. Treatment concentrates on the behavioral, emotional and spiritual aspects of addiction and recovery. The weekend program involves the family and includes educational groups and conjoint family sessions.
Will my family be involved in my treatment?
Absolutely! Creating a healthier, recovering family atmosphere enhances the support systems available to the patient upon discharge. This, in turn, helps build a healthier, more stable environment where individual and family recovery can occur. For details visit our family therapy page.
Do you offer an aftercare program?
We certainly do – in fact, we begin planning for your life after discharge the day you enter treatment with us.
When you complete the residential component of your treatment program at The Life Center of Galax, you will be given a discharge plan that includes referrals that support your continued recovery. You will also become part of the Alumni Association and have access to social events and an annual reunion. For more information visit our aftercare page.
